Barth Saien and Constantine Kabariu

Lihir artists (New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea). Barth Saien is from Masahet Island and is an expert designer and painter of traditional items (for example biar, kangal and laes) for use during traditional dances. He is also a lead dancer for various traditional dances performed at feasting and other celebrations on Lihir and on mainland New Ireland. Constantine Kabariu is a young man from from Masahet Island and now works for Newcrest Mining Ltd. He decorated the clapsticks with their designs and also assisted Barth Saien and Luke Kabariu with the final touches of paint for the two garamut [from UQ Anthropology Museum exhibition 'Musical Landscapes of Lihir' 2013].
