Father William Ross
1895 - 1973. Catholic missionary sent to New Guinea in 1926 and worked in the Madang area. He opened many new mission stations such as in the Adelbert Ranges (1927-1930), up the Ramu River (1931). Pioneer missionary in Mount Hagen area in 1934. His base of operations for 40 years was next to the Magei airstrip built by gold miners Mick and Dan Leahy. Worked extensively with the Jiga, Yamuga, and Mogei clansmen. IN 1976, the Postal Administration of PNG issues a 7t commemorative stamp.
