Possibly head of modern Maori war club (Duff of Auckland Museum). Items 7409, 7410 and 8084 were returned from long term loan to the Auckland Museum by Dr Roger Neich on 25 October 1996. It bears at its base, in white lettering, the Auckland Museum deposit information: 'DEP 50521, Ngati Kahungunu'. The lettering refers to the Maori tribe to which it was attributed, but it is not certain. Dr Neich suggested this piece, which is the upper portion of a fighting staff, would date circa 1900.
