Made by an unknown woman from the Southern Highlands Province using material possibly nylon. Lyneth's husband bought the bilum in Lae (where he lives) and it was brought to Lihir for resale. [ref Gillespie source file].
Name/description of design: Known as a 'string bag'. It is a modern version of the traditional bilum of the Southern Highlands that is used to carry babies.
Purchased by Dr Gillespie in February 2011 from the market in Londolovit, Lihir Island, New Ireland Province.
