Description

Painting, acrylic on canvas, entitled 'The Gatherings'. The panel has as a central figure a frog, one of the Ugarapul totems. The dominant colours are shades of brown, as well as black, yellow, grey and white. The 50.8cm x 60.9cm board has been framed with 4 pieces of dowel screwed together (2 pieces 675mm and 2 pieces 495mm). It is signed near the bottom right hand corner in a gold paint on white: 'K E V M 94.'

Research notes

'THE GATHERINGS. I have painted what I envisioned the gatherings to be and the spirit, heart and soul of our traditional life as my ancestors lived it and as it was created and has evolved through time .' [Exhibition label 1994]

Karen Moran was employed as artist-in-residence from 29/09/1993 to 29/04/1994. During this time she made 9 paintings [40245 to 40253] which were displayed in the 'Did You Know..' exhibit.
