Description

Laminated colour poster, 630 x 420mm, 'Aboriginal Nations. Owners of the Land Since Time Began'. 1993 NAIDOC [National Aborigines' and Islanders' Day Observance Committee] poster. The central painting, signed by a Danny Eastwood, features an indigenous baby with white dots and bands as body decoration, holding a miniature Aboriginal flag and asleep in a coolamon (wooden container). The child is surrounded on all sides by Aboriginal motifs - stylised animas (kangaroo, snake, lizard, turtle, platypus, emu and other birds) are nearest the sleeping child, and further away, both above and below, are a series of head and shoulder portraits of stylised humans, some reminiscent of Mimi figures.
