Description

Item 40097 is a roughly spherical pottery container, overall 120mm high and 110mm diameter. It is enclosed with two protruding circular openings at the top, 20mm in diameter, one at either end. Between these two spouts on the top of the vessel there is some dot and 4-leaf (?) decoration in the pottery, and the glossy appearance is from a vegetable gum smeared on the outside to waterproof the container.

Research notes

Professor McElwain states pottery items 40097, 40098 and 40099 were bought in Fiji, as children's drinking vessels.
