Description

A small “toy” shield, broad in the centre and narrowing to sharp points. The face and the back of the shield are painted with the same pattern – black diamond areas bordered with closely placed white dots, on a red field. There are holes in the centre of the shield. The handle area is roughly chiseled with writing: “Forest River”.

Research notes

The Foundation Donation comprises the items from L. P. Winterbotham's personal collection, which were donated to the University of Queensland in 1948 and form the basis of the Anthropology Museum.
