Description

Research notes

A man in the Tekin valley near Oksapmin. He is close to the site of a Baptist mission where an airfield was being constructed. He has a typical phallocrypt. His shins show the characteristic scarring with minor ulceration which was prevalent in some 80% of the adult population. It may have been caused by heat injury from sitting and sleeping close to fires [R. MacLennan, documentation of selected New Guinea slides].

Donated through the Australian Government's Cultural Gifts Program in memory of Professor Bob MacLennan.
