Object 2795 is a basketry cuirass used as body armour for the chest region. It is 18 inches long, with a maximum chest width of 13 ½ inches. It appears to be made from rattan, which is obtained from the long pliable stems of a particular type of climbing palm. This cuirass is undecorated and has no place to which other items can be attached [Neil Fairbrother 1999].
A cuirass is manufactured by firstly weaving a number of circular bands which are placed horizontally upon one another. A second series is woven perpendicular to the first series.
