Description

Bush whistle 26021 is 11.5cm long and 1.5cm wide at its mouth. The body of the whistle is made from bamboo - it has a pale yellow / straw complexion that is marked with intermittent darker patches. Attached to the closed end of the whistle is twine that has firstly been wrapped repeatedly around the end, and subsequently further bound with the use of a black resin, effectively turning it into a necklace. The twine appears to be made of a natural fibre such as grass (or bamboo itself) - it has been plaited to increase its strength. The open end has been roughly worked and shows no indication of being smoothed / polished (Greg Vass 2000). At the end of the string is a blue tag stating: 'Bush Whistle. Use as a signal by hunting parties. Aurukun, N. Qld'.
