Description

A carved, round, one piece, wooden drum tapering from both ends to a smaller central section with a protruding handle. Overall it is 805 mm high, with the ends approx. 225 mm in diameter x 680 mm in circumference. The curved handle is 250 mm on the outer edge. On the opposite side to the handle is a series of four small semi-circles with plant fibre knotted through the top three holes. The whole of the outside is decoratively carved. In the smaller central section there are a series of motifs running in a linear fashion between the handle and the opposite series of semicircles. Above and below the handle is a panel with irregular shapes, some close to circular and diamond shaped, and a stylised face nearest the handle. Above and below the four semicircles is a similar panel of roughly circular and diamond shapes, with a stylised star on the lower panel. Between these panels are roughly triangular panels with similar linear motifs as those in the central section. There is no membrane.
