Description

Research notes

MANAL (woomera) cut and decorated by Nanitjawuy of the Galwanuk clan. Notes by Milingimbi Art & Craft: Used for hunting on both land and sea to increase the power and/or distance of each throw. It is a basic piece of a man's set of weapons and tools. It is however being superceded by the rifle and shotgun in modern times. Part of a series of 31 items (24549 to 24579) relating to the WAGILAG SISTERS SONG CYCLE [story detailed at 24554]. Another item related to the Wagilag Sisters' song cycle is found at 1838.
