Description

Black cotton hat with maroon-coloured cotton lining. Hat is decorated with red cotton thread, seeds, beads, half-sphere metal beads, wool pom poms, red-dyed bird feathers, twine, red and brown fur, metal balls and tassels, plastic rod, and a wooden rod covered with red twine.

Research notes

Woman's turban. Items 23908 to 24133 and 24322 to 24331 were the private collection of Mrs Martin who went to the Province with the American Baptist Mission to set up an international marketing organisation for the tribal arts, mainly textile. Almost all items were exhibited in Museum Display No. 15, 1980. Other Thai Hill tribes items purchased from Mrs Martin can be found at 24425 to 24438.
