Rectangular woven plant fibre basket, base raised with four corners as legs and reinforced with two sticks, edge has vertical strips of fibre bordered by plaiting and bound fibre, inside has larger weave than outside. Registration number 23961 marked with tag and pen.
Transcript from 1979 audiotape by Mrs Martin: This basket comes from the Lisu tribe, again originating from Burma. It would be a container for rice.
Items 23908 to 24133 and 24322 to 24331 were the private collection of Mrs Martin who went to the Province with the American Baptist Mission to set up an international marketing organisation for the tribal arts, mainly textile. Almost all items were exhibited in Museum Display No. 15, 1980. Other Thai Hill tribes items purchased from Mrs Martin can be found at 24425 to 24438.
