Description

Contemporary bifacially flaked spear point [Archaeological Collection Catalogue Card].

Research notes

"Made from bottle glass by 'Radio', Gidja group. The art of flaking is a dying tradition in the Kimberleys, as most composite spears are now mounted with metal tips made from cold-beaten horse shoes or metal scraps. The ones we saw on this trip were not as finely flaked as the older ones, often only the edges rather than the entire surface being flaked" [catalogue card note].
