Description

Research notes

Sister Tomkins collected this item while stationed at the Anglican Mission at Dogura. "It is ... much whiter and of softer texture than the tapa cloth from areas further north, and I believe it is used in ceremonial dancing. A longer piece of course would be used by a full sized adult, this was given to me by a boy" [Letter, Tomkins to Winterbotham 18/08/1951]
The cloth was in the donor's possession "for many years" before she donated it to the Museum [Letter, Tomkins to Winterbotham 30/07/1950]
