Research notes

December 1996 - Sidney Wilson (Danba - shovel nose shark - clan) identified the shield as used in the rainbow serpent dance - the rainbow serpent made the Dugong River/dreaming track on Mornington Island. Catalogue Book 2 (CB2): shields 1127 to 1133 all used in dugong ceremony / corroboree.

The Foundation Donation comprises the items from L. P. Winterbotham's personal collection, which were donated to the University of Queensland in 1948 and form the basis of the Anthropology Museum.
